A Short Story was published in the context of an exhibition by Julião Sarmento at Dhondt-Dhaenens Museum at Deurle in Belgium, between November 2005 and January 2006.
The book contains a collection of texts and a diverse set of images.
The juxtaposed images include newspaper clippings, city views, photos of women, lobbies and hotel rooms, paintings by François Boucher or Domenico Ghirlandaio for example, photos whose composition seem to quote other art works as paintings by Caspar David Friedich, “Hand to mouth” de Bruce Nauman or Robert Mapplethorps’ self-portrait from 1975.
Each text page is an excerpt from a literary oeuvre such as : “ La mise à mort” (1965) by Louis Aragon, “Success (1978) by Martin Amis, “Les Chiens” (1982) by Hervé Guibert, “ El Aleph” (1949) by Jorge Luís Borges, “Nightwood” (1937) by Djuna Barnes, “Madame Edwarda” (1956) by George Bataille, “Ulysses” (1922) by James Joyce, “Orlando” (1928) by Virginia Wolf, “ The Book of Ilusions” (2002) by Paul Auster, among others.
